Mumbai: My Views

All in all this city sucks. There are definitely good things and there are bad things. But in the end the bad outweighs the good. Therefore, after all the votes have been counted, the city loses to many others. Some of my top reasons to judge the city Good, are:

  1. Career: there are so many job opportunities here that there is no way that the you can stop the influx of people from the rest of the country. I myself moved here 4 years ago and can definitely testify to the ease and speed with which I could find a job and a good one at that, even though I was a fresher. Most of my friends living here would testify to the same.
  2. Nothing else really comes to mind. :-)

Some of my top reasons to say that the city sucks are:

  1. The public infrastructure: state taxes are some of the highest in the country, but the city does not have anything to really show for all the money paid by the taxpayers. The city has a lot of people who are doing really well. So there could be only 2 things that can prevent taxpayer money from getting converted to public infrastructure.
    1. People are not paying taxes. So all the eligible taxpayers are sitting on the money. Which I think is definitely the case, and;
    2. People are paying taxes but the tax collectors are siphoning off the money into their own pockets. Again, I definitely think that this is the case, so;
    3. What I really think is happening is that, not everyone who is supposed to pay taxes is paying taxes and those who are paying taxes are being cheated of their moneys by the authorities.
  2. The people: my personal interactions with people have left a lot to be desired. However, since my professional interaction with people has been really good, I am willing to balance the two. However, I believe that its the people who make the city and Mumbai has no patriotism or pride in being Indian. A small example, people dont even stand ata attention when the National Anthem plays in the various multiplexes in the city. This, needless to say, really pisses me off. I mean can’t you stand straight without moving or talking or fidgeting for 26 f*****g seconds? Sigh…
  3. The prices: everything costs more here. God only knows why the taxes are one of the highest in the country.

So there. I’ll rant more as and when the opportunity arises.
