Recently I found myself waiting in my car at the side of a road while my wife finished off some work. Fortunately I had my camera with me and decided to take some long exposure shots of the traffic on that road.
I used the 18-70 lens.
Since I didn’t have a tripod, I kept the camera on the dashboard for most shots, but I also took a few shots with the camera in my hand. For doing the shots where the camera is in your hand, I use a technique that I read on the net where you pull the camera so that the strap is tight. That helps steady the camera for longer exposures when you don’t have a tipod. The live view helps here and also the fact that the A300 LCD can be tilted up.

These are just beautiful.. Especially the rear view mirror one.. Honestly, one of these shots would be a better header image than the one you have now!!
@jigarThanks for stopping by. These were extremely impromptu pictures taken whileI was waiting on the road. There are a few better ones herehttp://hitchedhiker.com/2008/07/20/kolkata-shin…..
Abhilash– this is Apurva– you've commented on my blog before. These are very nice impromptu pictures– I've been wanting to start a photography hobby. How long do you think it takes to get to an intermediate level with a decent SLR camera?
@Apurva I would say that it really depends upon how much time you spend withthe camera. I try to take it with me as much as possible but since this isnot a P&S it not always easy to carry it around. I have had mine sinceDecember last year and am fairly comfortable with the SLR. Also because myP&S had a full manual mode and that made me comfortable with Manualexposure. If you have been using your P&S well then there is no learningcurve really, only the ability to quickly setup your shot with your DSLR.
