Online Filing of Income Tax Returns

The Indian income tax authorities have tried to make life simpler for tax payers through online filing. The online filing can either be done from the website of the income tax department or from the websites of 3rd party service providers. I would advise that you use one of the 3rd party service providers. The websites of the 3rd party providers are easier to understand and use.

    The IT dept still requires one to take a printout of the form and get it stamped at the IT office, no ?

    If you haven't uploaded your ITR 1 with a digital signature then you get an
    ITR V which you need to print, sign and mail to the Bangalore IT office by
    “Ordinary Mail” only. Apparently people who have been sending this doc say
    that the PO Box address is non-existent and they are not getting any
    confirmation of receipt.
