  • Carrying Out Batch Actions in digiKam

I have written about digiKam in the past. That was more of an overall review of a great piece of open source software. Recently, I have had the opportunity to use the individual features of digiKam more in detail. One of the features that I use most frequently is “Batch Editing”. Honestly I used to use Phatch for all my batch editing needs until a few weeks ago. However, since the time that I have started using dig...

  • Working on your Holiday Photos with Digikam

This is the holiday season and you expect to take a lot of photographs. If you are not planning on taking a lot of photographs, you are at least planning on taking more photographs than you usually take. Just past the new year you would probably realize that you have a lot of photographs and not so much time to work on them, especially if you are in the “occasional photographer” category. The number of photos that yo...

  • Sony Alpha 300 Sensor Cleaning

For the last couple of months I have had to do a lot of cloning and fixing of most of the day time photos that I have shot due to dust stuck to the sensor of my Sony A300. I spend a lot of time post processing for dust specs removal to otherwise perfectly good images. The reason that I have so much dust on my sensor, is probably because I like to change my lenses a lot, in the field. That's what happens when you...

  • Starting my own Photo 365

Update: The photo blog is up and running!!! You can visit it here or use the menu on the top of the page to go to the Photo Blog. The concept is slightly changed though. It's no longer a 365 type of project, rather more of a One Photo a Day kind of project. The time is now ripe for me to commit to a project that will require me to take one photo every day for the next 365 days. Today is the 31st of December 2009...

  • Review: Kata DR 467i Camera Laptop Backpack

I had been itching to get my hands on a comfortable backpack that could accommodate my camera with the additional lenses, cables and other stuff that I like to carry on me with my camera, in addition to a standard 14 or 15 inch laptop. I researched on the internet for the right bag for quite some time. I really didn’t want to go overboard with this selection since I don’t plan to increase my camera gear by any sub...

Review: WordPress 2.7

My WordPress 2.6 installation had been prompting me for quite some time to upgrade to the latest 2.7 installation. So yeaterday, I finally used Fantastico and upgraded. I think this is a big improvement over the previous one. The look is cleaner and the navigation more intuitive. The whole thing looks more like it should have in the first place.

A couple of things that I really like about WP 2.7 are the redesigned dashboard where everything is really well placed. I like the menus on the left and the fact that they are collapsable. I also really like the fact More >

I play a lot of Simcity. I have been playing Simcity since the first time that it came out. The last time that I played Simcity was about 2 months ago when I got out my old copy of Simcity 4 Rush Hour and played with all the cheats enabled. Built everything in the city that could possibly be built and of course had no possibility of making any profits what so ever. So I just got into one of the cars and drove around.

So, when we were coming in to land at the Toronto Pearsons Airport, this is the More >

Charles De Gaulle Airport – Bon Voyage

So Paris airport was a disappointment!

I mean, we were in Paris right, but I didn’t run into even one stereotypical French dude or dudet! I mean c’mon don’t you wnat to have something to show tourists like me who just want to see some French people in a typical setting like with bread and wine and talking funny and shit.

Sorry, I’m just being mean. But yeah, I really didn’t see too many French travellers. I guess they don’t like to travel as much. The airport itself was very efficient with signs to get More >

Everyones Going Out of Business

So what is the effect of the US sub-prime meltdown on the businesses in Canada. As a tourist/consumer the most prominent things that I can see are “Going Out of Business” sales, like the one below. I am sure quite a few jobs were lost, but shoppers didn’t seem to mind as things were so cheap.

Going Out of Business - Buyers not Complaining

Items were flying off the shelves and most of the good stuff was already gone.

Coming from India, I feel sad for people here in Canada because they have to pay about 2 to 3 times more than what More >

The Icelandic Wastelands

While flying from Paris to Toronto, most people on the plane had gone off to sleep. It was really bright outside and the shades were kept down. So it was only by chance that I saw the map on the screen in front of me. The map showed the plane flying over Iceland.

Having explored Iceland many times (on Goolge Earth), this was something that I had to see. The skies under us were really clear and I was able to get some clear shots of the surface of Iceland. The icy wasteland is haunting and managed to give me goose More >

Dawn of a new day

Your eyes..unseeing they stared

Your hands shook in despair

You wept with pain in your heart

Along came hope

She walked with a light heart

On a golden carpet of happiness

Held her head high

Stared into the unknown

And didn’t flinch

She took your hand and held it tight

The smile never left your face all the way till the end…

Ubuntu 8.10 Review: Broke but fixed

I have been using Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) since the beginning of December. So, this is a short term review. Although, I don’t think much will change in the long term.

I upgrade via the internet from 8.04. Considering the internet speeds in India, the download took about 6 hours to complete. After the upgrade completed and I rebooted my laptop, I expected 2 things:

  1. The WIFI would be broken… again
  2. Display would be screwed… again

After the laptop came back up again, what do I see? The display is fine! That was a relief!

India has some great bloggers. They write good stuff. They provide inspiration to amateurs like… ME. They stimulate, motivate and aliviate.

India also has a lot of amateur bloggers like… ME. Here’s a list of things that I think amateur/newbie bloggers should steer clear of, especially in India. These are articles that have been done to death by others or are popular news items anyway. You know, like taking today’s headline and blogging about the same thing.

So I was going through the various article on the internet about how to generate ideas to blog about and tips or topics that you More >
