  • Carrying Out Batch Actions in digiKam

I have written about digiKam in the past. That was more of an overall review of a great piece of open source software. Recently, I have had the opportunity to use the individual features of digiKam more in detail. One of the features that I use most frequently is “Batch Editing”. Honestly I used to use Phatch for all my batch editing needs until a few weeks ago. However, since the time that I have started using dig...

  • Starting my own Photo 365

Update: The photo blog is up and running!!! You can visit it here or use the menu on the top of the page to go to the Photo Blog. The concept is slightly changed though. It's no longer a 365 type of project, rather more of a One Photo a Day kind of project. The time is now ripe for me to commit to a project that will require me to take one photo every day for the next 365 days. Today is the 31st of December 2009...

  • Working on your Holiday Photos with Digikam

This is the holiday season and you expect to take a lot of photographs. If you are not planning on taking a lot of photographs, you are at least planning on taking more photographs than you usually take. Just past the new year you would probably realize that you have a lot of photographs and not so much time to work on them, especially if you are in the “occasional photographer” category. The number of photos that yo...

  • Review: Kata DR 467i Camera Laptop Backpack

I had been itching to get my hands on a comfortable backpack that could accommodate my camera with the additional lenses, cables and other stuff that I like to carry on me with my camera, in addition to a standard 14 or 15 inch laptop. I researched on the internet for the right bag for quite some time. I really didn’t want to go overboard with this selection since I don’t plan to increase my camera gear by any sub...

  • Sony Alpha 300 Sensor Cleaning

For the last couple of months I have had to do a lot of cloning and fixing of most of the day time photos that I have shot due to dust stuck to the sensor of my Sony A300. I spend a lot of time post processing for dust specs removal to otherwise perfectly good images. The reason that I have so much dust on my sensor, is probably because I like to change my lenses a lot, in the field. That's what happens when you...

Mumbai to get Mumbai Eye

Oct 18th

I recently read in the newspapers that Mumbai is going to get a brand new monument/tourist attraction. The Eye. Mumbai Eye. LIke… London Eye. That’s right. Mumbai’s Bandstand area is going to be the location of the Mumbai Eye overlooking the Arabian Sea on one side and Bandra West on the other. You can also look into homes of celebrities and get an eagles eye view of the slums.

The Eye will occupy a total area of 14000 sq.ft and will be about 650 feet high. I like it. Though it would have been better if the Eye had been placed More >

October 14th saw the release of Firefox 3.1 beta. With this release Mozilla wants to showcase improvements in the user interface and greater support for emerging web standards. This release was originally intented to come out in August but they released an additional Alpha before this release.

This release has some interesting new features. The most interesting to me is the new TraceMonkey Javascript Engine which Mozilla claims is faster then the V8 Javascript Engine of Google Chrome though not as fast as the Squirrelfish Extreme Project of Apple. Mozilla indicates that this may change soon as TM has a lot More >

New MacBooks are Here

I am no Apple fan. I feel that in terms of computing, Apple occupies a niche that I don’t really want to be a part of (I prefer the Linux niche). But, of course I am interested in all that Apple does from time to time. Be it the iPhone, the iPods or the brand, spanking new MacBooks. I have always liked to play around with Macs. Not having owned one, is probably why I don’t have much of an attachment to them. But I have been reading and following up on the new MacBooks and I really like them.

The Customer is Not Always Right

There is a website that I visit very often. I have a special affinity to it as a person in the Service industry and also as a sales person. A website that is a slap on the face of the person/persons who came up with the term “The Customer is Always Right”, because in reality, the customer is seldom right.

This website, gives real conversations between customers and service providers and it is a hoot. If I had found this website a few years earlier I would have used some of the anecdotes in my day to day sales activities. And More >

One of my Favourite XKCD Comics

This is one of my favourite xkcd comics. It literally sums up the music that I had to listen to while growing up. Listening to the music and understanding the words was as much as a challenge as getting the music in the first place. My brother used to charge my money for the lyrics. The city we used to live in at the time was crazy about break dancing and Michael Jackson was the first person they tried to emulate. MC Hammer came in a close second.

Reading Now – Garden of Rama

I am actually reading another book right now. “Garden of Rama” by Arthur C. Clarke. I started reading this while I was waiting for the Dune books to be delivered. This book has not been a happy journey. I have struggled to read more than 20 pages at a time. I am really glad the Dune books came in. This one does not match up to Cradle or the Odessey series. No where near as good.

I will get back to this one after I finish reading the first 3 Dune novels.

Reading Now – Dune

I thought that I could put up a few details of the books that I read, when I am reading them.

Currently I am revisiting one of my all time favourite science fiction classics, Dune; by Frank Herbert. I was first exposed to Dune when my Dad brought home the movie when I was in standard 8th or 9th. The movie was a little mature for my young mind but the whole idea of Dune was extremely intriguing to me. The blue in blue eyes were very cool also .

After a few months I realized that the movie was actually an More >
